As you can tell by this screenshot, programming blocks are more descriptive than in E Toys. An "loop" statement (here they are nested) looks like a mouth to contain other actions. Different blocks have different shapes to make it clear where they can go and how they can fit together.
Unlike E Toys full-screen approach, the Scratch interface has a distinctive stage where the action happens, and other areas with specific uses. I found this concept helpful for getting kids to move around the environment.
